Typeface Process

I've decided to create a thin, sans-serif face with extreme curves. I really like modern type; I've started with the letter "g" because it's one of my favorites to work with. I love the curves, but I don't want it to look too cute..

Typeface Inspiration

I have really been drawn to extremely thick letterforms and extremely thin letterforms. I know I want to create a sans-serif typeface that looks very modern. I've been experimenting with both styles, but I'm leaning towards thin/exaggerated.

week 5 process

This week, I chose the band The Verve and I decided to use a photograph of the "V" I created for my 3D drop cap.

week 5 inspiration

I really like simple grids that are easy to follow; however, I do try to break my grid if it works to create some interest.

Week 4 Inspiration

I really want to do a lot more analog "stuff" this week- but I do want to try to keep the posters relatively simple. I love this posters because of the single-color backgrounds and the one/two object focus.

Week 4 Process

This week I am making posters for The Magic Numbers. I hope what I come up with is considered "random". I had no idea how difficult this system would be.
I plan on using this red umbrella I drew for one poster and I want to use the concept of a "magic-8 ball" for my other one.

3rd week posters

Here are this weeks dilatational posters and one revised radial poster (I do not know why both the Beck and 2nd Bats For Lashes posters are being stretched out...).

Process 3

Here is some what I've done for this set of posters. I chose the band Bats for Lashes and I really wanted to use hand-drawn type.

Inspiration 3

Here are some images that are currently inspiring. I love the hand-drawn lettering on the right image. I am going to create my own type this week- at least for one of the posters. I like the simplicity of the left poster. I am really drawn to line right now.

Second Set

Here are the final posters for this week. They printed out very pixelated and I'm not sure why the pdf version of the first one looks so pixelated online. Ugh.

Process 2

The first image is a photograph I took in an Urban Outfitters. I loved the contrast between the chandeliers and the bright, neon ropes. I decided to cut out the ropes and incorporate them in the poster. The second images is what I am currently working on. I've been playing around in Illustrator with line and I'm trying to create depth with the ropes and the lines.

Inspiration 2

This week, I have been looking at album art- especially the older albums. I want to play with lines and overlapping different elements in the my posters for this set. I am making posters for Beck (Beck Hansen). His music has a "pop art" feel and want to make the posters very eclectic.

Process

I am doing a lot of scanning for the first set of posters. I think I will do handwritten type for one of them and use a font from the computer for the second poster. I want one to be more organic and illustrative while the other one has a more rigid grid to look very linear.

Inspiration

I really love illustration and the "hand drawn" feel in analog art. I want to use the scanner more this semester so I can do my own illustrations. I want to experiment with both creating my own type for the posters and using type from the computer to combine analog and digital methods.
